Taxis/Buses

A convenient way to get around St. John is by taxi. The taxis on St John are a bit of a combination bus service and taxi service. Rather than running off a meter, rates are per person and by destination. These rates are controlled by the VI Taxicab Division and do not vary from taxi to taxi. When you step off the ferry at Cruz Bay, you can expect to see at least a few taxis waiting to take you to your destination.

What else should I know about St John Taxis?

  • To make sure you are using a licensed driver, check to see that the license has the initials JP and that the driver has his credentials posted.
  • If you would like to go round trip, simply double the one-way fare.
  • It is common for the driver of your taxi to stop and pick up other passengers along the way. Remember you are on island time.
  • There are waiting charges associated with taxis. Waiting is free for 10 minutes, then charges run 15 cents per minute.
